Hi All

I have a 20\' Half cabin boat with a Volvo AQ175 V6 penta (229 chev) with a 280 leg without trim. The motor is blown and after getting quotes to get a rebuilt motor, one of the workshops recommended I repower with a used Mercruiser 5.0MPI with Bravo II. Vintage late 90\'s. He will warranty the used motor/leg combo.

My question is would you rather get old leg with new engine or go for a used Mercruiser 5.0MPI with Bravo II. I was told that they were commonly around 400hrs use. Does this still leave plenty of life.

Also are they any sites with info about different mercruisers etc. I\'ve been looking for a wiki type site without luck.

cheers

WOW that is a big job to go from A volvo drive and transom assy, To a bravo drive and transom assy, In just fiberglass work he will need to do. What is wrong with the volvo drive? I am thinking you would be better off just finding a engine some place that would match up and just install it.

Re: 5.0 MPI mercruiser repower opinions

To be honest, I\'m looking to buy the boat. Its been for sale for ages and has become very affordable. its a long way from town so potential buyers have been nil. The rest of the boat seems very solid, and for the price i can get the hull with blown motor and the quote I\'ve received for conversion to late model mercruiser gives me a very competitive all up price for the boat.

I was wondering what to expect from the mercruiser with regards to power, fuel consumption etc with a much newer mercruiser bravo II with 5.0 MPI engine in a 20ft boat.

Have also been told that power trim is very desirable, but being fairly new to boats, not sure what benefit that has.

I\\\'ve just got my tax return and it was more than expected so can afford the extra for the later model setup conversion. While its been well looked after, the boat has been used quite regularly so figure a newer leg wouldn\\\'t hurt.

cheers
