I have found out that my oil pressure switch has failed. I just changed my manifolds and risers and I must have hit the sensor, which is mounted near my oil filter during the install. I have jumped the switch out and she runs fine. My problem is my old switch was normally open with two spade terminals. The switch closed with prssure and allowed the voltage to make its way to the fuel pump. The new switch has only one connection point. This point is the screw on type. I see how the switch body grounds to the block connection. However, I'm confused to what I am supposed to do with the two wires. Do I connect them both to the same terminal stud and when the switch senses loss of oil pressure it goes to ground at the block? The old switch was so much easier. Thanks in advance.

you have the wrong switch.
sounds like they gave you the sensor not the switch.
if you ground those wires you will be asking about the 20 amp ign fuse location.

Welcome to iboats. :)

The cylindrical one is a pressure sender to an oil pressure gauge. What you need is a pressure switch. Different animal.

Change that. What you have is an idiot light sender. That's automotive. It works on pressure too, but it shuts off with pressure. What you need is one that connects with pressure. And has two non-grounding leads.

Re: 5.0 Mercruiser Oil pressure switch

Thanks to all who responded. I knew the "new" sensor was incorrect, however, it is listed as an oil pressure switch that interupts fuel pump. At least thats what is reads on the package. It's a Sierra made part. Sierra's web site shows it also to be an oil pressure switch. Anyhow, I located a mercruiser sensor from a local parts center. The diagram provided by Don S was exactly how mine was arranged. The new mercruiser part has a small pigtail harness that plugs into the switch. The leads then plug into the sta-con wire ends. Thanks for the help.
