I have a 5.0 GXi-D (2003) and it just started having these issues:
-Hole shot with WOT it hesitates, sputters, and backfires as it accellerates.
-When the boat is just about on plane, sputtering goes away and it runs normal.
-When I bring the throttle back, then to WOT it acts normal
-It runs normally at all throttle settings/speeds, except at WOT. At WOT/ high speed/RPM's/trimmed out the engine alarm went off and dropped RPM's to <2000. I checked everything and no issues on the guages.
-Back to WOT with a little hesitation on accelleration, then normal.
What I found out: Marina gas octane is 87. The manual calls for 89. Will this cause these issues?
I am going to check the plugs for fouling, and check the impeller pump. Anything else I should be looking for? I am also going to run some seafoam through it.
