5.0 GL Volvo hop up?

Hi all!

I was reading old posts about this, but never got a definitive answer.
Has anybody put a 4 bbl on a GL 5.0? I hear that the manifold already accepts one, so bolting on a small 500 CFM should be quite possible.
Holley's carb selector program calls for a 450 CFM on a 305 CI spinning at 4800 max RPM.
On the 4.3, there are plenty of posts telling us exactly which carb and manifold to put on, with about a 25 HP increase.
Any experience doing this on the 5.0? Results?

It's an '01 5.0 Volvo GL-A
I did see the first part of that thread but somehow missed the rest.
I'm a little surprised that this 4 bbl change hasn't been done many times. If the manifold is already compatible and you can just bolt on an Edelbrock 1409, this is a one hour change.

Not a big deal to make the change, then a little fine tuning.

I think most people just don't want to spend the money for a relatively small increase in power.

As you saw in the thread, I was surprised by the results. I would be interested if you found other engine differences between the carbed and TBI.

Given there wasn't any improvement, why would you change?

You haven't identified exactly what your engine configuration is, but here is a recent thread: http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=396275

This quotation sums it up from his upgrade:

Re: How much HP would be gained adding 4bbl to 5.0L Volvo GL Vortec?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Drum roll please! badumbadumbadaumbadumbadumbadumbadumbadum....

And the answer to the question asked in the title of this thread:
How much HP would be gained adding 4bbl to 5.0L Volvo GL Vortec?

ZERO.

That's right.

ZERO.

Thanks for the replies.

My tiny brain just surmised that if fuel injection added 40 HP, then addng a little more fuel would boost the power a little. The experiment was done logically and methodically, though.

I don't know if the gain, if it exists, would be expensive. I was expecting 25 HP for $250 bux, and I would take that deal anytime.

I would love to see that test boat purposely overpropped, like a 23 pitch 3 blade, and then see if the results were identical still. I am suspecting that the prop used was at the edge of its efficiency. Anyway, fun stuff!
