Looking for some advice,
I have 2004 Stracraft Aurora 2210 with a Volvo Penta 5.0 GL-D (carburated). Other than a bad thermostat, this is the first problem I've had with the motor. I've had this problem the last two times I used the boat. The first time it happended I was running the boat at about 4500 RPM when I started hearing lifter noise, and also noticed a slight power degregation and what seemed to be a miss (not running on all cylendars. When I brought it back to idel, it ran abit rough and had a predominent lifter noise. Shut it down and restarted a couple times but still had the problem. Started it again and let it idle for a few minutes and the noise went away and it ran great. Powered back to the marina at 3500 RPM's with no problems. Changed the oil/filter and looked for metal - none. Same problem happended the next time I used it with the same details, except it started as soon as I hit 400 RPM's.
I'm thinking I may have a bad hydraulic lifter that can't keep up at high RPM's. Thought about changing the lifters myslef, but would hate to spend the money to change all the lifters if that's not the problem.
Any thoughts?
Thanks
