hi, everyone :) , ive just joined this great site and i hope i can get a little advice.
i am brand new to boating and i have a problem with my mercury 4hp 2 stroke
the propeller shaft is bent and i cant see how to remove it, i have removed the gearbox from the engine and i have removed the propeller and the big plastic threaded retainer 'thing' behind it, which allows the bearing case to come out,now what?
is there a diagram online maybe?
any help would be much appreciated
thanks Grant

Hi,
The nylon spanner nut has to come out. You can make a spanner wrench.
Do a search for a parts diagram. I use crowleymarine for pictures of things.
I am sure there are a lot of them out on the net. I just haven't looked for them.
mercury outboard parts will get you a lot of choices.

Re: 4hp gearbox disassembly

thanks:), ive now got the water pump off and removed the circlip above the driveshaft bearing, so now i can see the propshaft bearing from the front and the driveshaft bearing from the top, but still cant see how to remove either shaft,, in fact do have to remove the driveshaft in order to get the propshaft out?
