48spl shift shaft removal

Hey fellas long time no see. Removing lower unit from my buds 1990 48 spl. I think I found where the linkage comes into the lower cowl but there is an odd brass connector. Not sure which screw to loosen as it is in a very awkward place. Here it is:

Why yes, yes it does! Thanks for the diagram makes it easier to understand. I saw two screws in there and decided I'd ask before I went to town.

On that mtr I think you can take the lower cowls off with just a few screws. Take them off and it makes the job easier.

Thanks for the idea Boobie. Since I had the carbs off, I just took off the starter and it was really simple to get to.
