I have a 1995 Johnson 48 SPL. I have owned it since new. It has developed a problem in the last few months. If I trim the motorall the way down and run at full trottle it runs grea,t but as I trim it up it will start to cut out ( miss and act like it is starving for fuel or spark) as the RPM's reach 5000. I have looked for pinched wires and pinched fuel line but can't find and problems. It used to run at 5500 and push the boat great. Any ideas on this problem? Thanks for any help.

Re: 48 SPL

You might start by checking for a loose ground. Maybe something is holding a connection in place when it's down, and not when it's trimmed up.

Just a wild guess.

Re: 48 SPL

I would check it for fuel starvation. It may be the RPM causing the trouble, not the tilt.

Restricted vent.
Partially clogged filter.
Air leak in fuel supply lines.
Pinched fuel line.
Weak fuel pump.

Your dealing with a 11 year old 2 cycle engine. start with a compression test.

Re: 48 SPL

Fuel line could be sucking air at certain trim angles.
how does it react when trimmed in and out at various speed.
As suggested check all connections don't forget the main plug.
