48 Spl evinrude

i have a 48 spl evinrude that wont fire it turns over fine but the coils are not gettinng any fire also there is a little red lever under the throttle linkage what is that for any help will be greatly appreciated

Little red lever, probaly fast idle

how are you checking for spark?

Need a good charge battery, remove both spark plugs, use spark tester ste to 7/16 gap, ground the other spark plug wire so no stray voltage around to ignite gas fumes.

spin the engine and see if you are getting spark.

i have check the plugs for fire with a electric checker and the coil there is no current to either

i am not that good on motors are there points or a magneto under the flywheel on top

this is the primer solenoid replace the choke on older motors, this red lever is in the normal operating position that is activated when pushing the key.
