Re: 48 Johnson

janthonyb7,The J series 16ft Carolina Skiff is max hp rated for a 30 hp outboard.I would not recommend exceeding that limit.Factory recommends a 10-25 hp on that particular model. The 28hp you mentioned would be a good choice for that rig. While I don't know the actual weight of the 28 I'm sure it is within the transom capability of the 16ft J skiff.

J- MODEL

model Length beam floor width approx. boat wt max. Hp sug Hp price
J1250 11'8" 64" 50" 230 lb. 20 10-15 $ 1045
J1450 13'8" 64" 50" 280 lb. 25 10-20 $ 1270
J1650 15'8" 64" 50" 330 lb. 30 10-25 $ 1517
Hi janthonyb7,
Your looking at about 115-120 on the 28 SPL Johnson. The 48 Hp comes in at about 180-190 Lbs. Just so you know. As OB said, a 28 Hp Johnson would be a good choice for your boat. The 48 would be dangerously over doing it.
