I have tried to locate the weep hole on my '82 470 to no avail. I have felt, scraped, probed on the front cover roughly in the 7 o'clock position but I cannot locate it. Could it be behind the bracket for my alternator conversion. Anyway below is a photo of the front of my 470. Give me a clue as to where this rascal is.

Re: 470 weep hole

From what I've found I thought it was to the top left (appx. 1030) of the water pump.

edit: on the suction end of the pump

edit edit: even though I don't see how that would work. You would think the seal is on the opposite side of the suction.

No it isn't. It is just above the bracket, in the timing chain cover. Your bracket is screwed into the two threaded holes in the photo. It is not covered. Look at the relationship between the bolt head above the bracket and the weep hole. Its right behind the belt in your photo. Someone may have filled it in. Mine was easy to find, just followed the antifreeze upstream:facepalm:.

OK. I will check again. I have no issues with cam seals leaking or milky oil but I have never been able to locate this weep hole so I'm giving it another try. It doesn't look it in my picture but the doghouse makes it awkward to get in there.
