Long story short, bought a boat, guy tells me boat died on him in lake, wouldnt restart....
failed to tell mention the voltage regulator filled boat with white choking smoke..... asshole
I put a new electric ignitor and coil because points were original 1980 and tarnished, thinking thats why it died.
question is, Why does everyone spend 300-500 on a alternator set up instead of switching to a newer style voltage regulator made to handle the load? Its 4 wires that i can see, it just transfers 18v charge to 12v battery to charge battery.
seriously, why cant i use one out of a motorcycle or newer mercruiser thats stator charged and not water cooled??? Theyre 20x smaller and 100x more advanced than this 1970s technology.
