470 stator wiring help please

I have an '88 470 that I just am finishing replacing the cam seals on.
A little tough only because of the unknowns, interruptions etc.

But I have a question about wiring the stator to the regulator [ It's all oem.].
I labeled the wires before I pulled them off; [yellow with red stripe]
but as I am putting them back it's labeled different than I remember [brain freeze] IOW I marked the "front" wire as going to the front lead on the regulator. The problem; I could have sworn I marked the rear wire.

Is there a way to tell if I did it right?
How would I check?

Re: 470 stator wiring help please

Thank you for the links fellas - great pics.
However I guess my question ought to have been:

"Is there a way to tell which yellow/red wire from the stator is Positive and which is negative?"
I'm pretty sure I'm ok here but I was a little fuzzy when I was doing some of the disassembly work work (2am)

So although I have the yellow/reds on the terminals shown; the diagrams don't discriminate between the yellow/reds.

Now I'm thinking -
"disconnect the leads for the first fire up and check while running with a voltmeter."

Is this the best way to check without hurting any electric components?

There is no + or - with a AC charging system. the stator puts out ac voltage to the reg.

Hi ya Doc- thanks for chiming in.
So are you saying the orientation of the (yellow/red) wires;
that is - which one is on the left terminal and which is on the right
is not important; they can be reversed without consequence?

If the wires are the same color then it should not matter (makes sense right?). I believe the output from the stator is AC, and is rectified by the regulator to DC.

Absolutely right!:D

The answer is also in the color of the wires...

They're BOTH YEL/RED.

It doesn't matter!

Well thank you fellas for the reassurance.
I finished putting the boat together tonight.
Still needs coolant and the power steering belt.
Should fire it this week.
