470 Ring Ring ?

Need some help on how the rings are installed? The merc manual I have and the sheet that came with the rings seem to be different. Oil ring not an issue, middle ring not an issue, little dot goes towards the top of piston. However the top ring has no dot and the hasting sheet that came with the rings shows the grove to be in and facing up, where as the manual I have shows the grove on the ring to be facing out and up. That can't be cause the grove can only be installed up or down on the inside of the piston. I hope this is making sence. Rings are hasting moly part # 2M598-std.
Engine Mercrusier 470 3.7L 224ci serial # B517271. Usings stock std pistons.

Ayuh,... The Factory manuals are in the stickies at the top of this forum,...
Donno what you're using now...

I believe Groove Up is Right though...

That's funny, I'm looking in service manual #8 (section 3A, page 31, paragraph 6) and it shows the groove on the top ring up and inside, just like you say the hasting instructions say...

Where's the problem?

Manual #8 does show it in and up as achris said. However always follow the instructions that come with the ring set over what you may read in the service manual as not all ring sets are identical.

I agree that IF the manual and the ring set instructions are different, follow the ring set instructions... But I am pointing out that they are the same here... Where's his problem?
