470 Cam seal woes

Ah man ....
Finally got around to putting my timing cover on but didn't count on the outcome.

Short story - I used a section of cork gasket for the front of the oil pan.
But the old gaskets outside edge was swollen and I had a matched the new section to it.

This made the cover too high; and so as I began to push the cover on, the seal caught either the threaded edge of the cam or the speedi-seal edge and cut into it. >.<
Now I have to pull it and have a new one installed.

that is the reason you drop the pan, install the cover, and re-attach the pan on almost all engines.

Stuff happens! When I put my new alternator on my 470, I was torquing the water pump impeller cover to a lousy 15# and it cracked:mad:. So don't feel too bad.;)
