Do all 3.7L mercruisers share the same camshaft? It seems there are alot of different ideas on the powerband of this engine. Mine is a 1979 470 and says 3800-4200rpm on the valve cover and some people say 4200-4600rpm ??? New to 3.7L's

My 84 470 is 3800 to 4200 also.

I know at some point they changed the way the water pumps attaches from a stud to a bolt. I dont know about the cam lift and duration specs.

The cams all appear to have the same part number. The difference in the WOT rpm is between the 2 barrel and 4 barrel carbed engines. Mine is a 87/165 and is 4200-4600 (2bbl) a similar vintage with a 4 bbl carb (190) would be 4400-4800.

Mercury did at one point list different cam part numbers for the various HP's, but they have all been superceded to one replacement cam now.
