Depending on the year model, the stator is either an item with a set of coils (usually under or inside the flywheel) that runs the electronic ignition, charges the battery through a rectifier, or both.
It can be tested with a multimeter. Usually a multimeter that will read RMS or peak reading signal.
Most of the switchboxes can be found through used outboard parts sources you might find on google, or ebay.
One must be careful, and competent in testing to fully address the value or functionality of used parts.
