40hp only runs with choke on

well i took out my boat for the first time tonight it started without any problems we than drove around 25 meters than the motor bogged down and stalled later we tryed starting the motor but it would only stay running with the choke on what could be wrong? the motor wont start at all now i remove the plugs they seemed wet

well ... is it a yamaha or a suzuki, 4-stroke or 2-stroke ... we need more info ......

if you need the choke on to keep the engine running then it's time to rebuild the carbs

Agreed: there is a blockage of the main jet(s). No matter which brand, 2-stroke, 4-stroke, 2 or 3 cylinders, the answer's the same: pull the carbs and clean 'em.

i don't agree ..... on a 4-stroke you might have a bigger problem ... if it is a 2-stroke it might be something small ... like ventilation at the tank etc. .....

if i were you i would make sure the tank was vented, fuel filter clean, then set the carb needle again (maybe too lean)and then rebuild carb.
