Paul,

My name is Jack Harris I am George/Harritwos Son i just bought a 40hp nissan serial number is N*40c that is what is visibal. Whatever the * is is not readable. Engine has been sitting for 5 years. I have pulled the spark plugs and filled the cylinders full of oil. I know i need to change the lower unit oil and the impellor what else would you recomond i do and are parts readily avalible for this engine. Is the service manual avablive and do you have one like we have for the 55hp nissan.

Welcome to Iboats,

Give carb a good internal soak with proper cleaning solvent, engine probably was turned off with 2 strokes oil on carb and already badly varnished inside. Clean all fuel related parts tank to carb, Change impeller or complete WP kit if needed, grease all sliding, rotating visible parts for smooth operation- Grease drive shaft splines when removing lower unit to check impeller, include prop shaft too.

The Service Manual is a generic that suits 2.5 to 40 HP 2 strokes Tohatsu/Nissan engines, would need to buy one from any Tohatsu dealer. The 40C is still under current production with spare parts availability, a matter to check local market for them.

Jack,

The fuel system may or may not be OK, depending on whether it was drained when the motor was "mothballed". You will know when you fire it up.

Yes, you will want a new WATER PUMP KIT : 25/30HP & 40C 2-STROKE, Part # 361873220M, $46.67 (not just the impeller).

The Factory service manual for your 40C is now a part of the combined manual that covers the 1- and 2-cylinder 2-stroke motors: Part # 003-21035-1, $45.00.

Parts are still available.

Thanks everybody for the information but i was wonder if anyone knew where i could get the throttle control and steering controls at or if i could use any other brand like honda or yamaha controls for the engine.

Any Nissan or Tohatsu dealer. The harness would be different on any other brand.

If your motor is not setup for remote, you have a lot of conversion to do. If it is already a remote model, use a standard Teleflex-style steering helm and cable. As Elvin mentioned, you want the Factory RC box (that uses standard Morse-style cables), so the wiring matches up.
