Hey guys. I just bought a Teleflex Tachometer to add to my 15' Center Console. I hooked up everything according to the directions, a switched power off the ignition, a ground, and a send wire from the rectifier on the motor end. When I turn the key, the needle drops to zero like it's supposed to, but then when I crank the motor, the tach just sits at zero, no movement at all.

It's an '81 40Hp Mercury Outboard. On the rectifier, the wiring is Yellow Red Yellow. The instructions say to hook the send wire up to either of the yellow leads, I tried both, no luck.

Any idea on where to start troubleshooting? My gut feeling is a bad rectifier, but how should I confirm that? I have access to a multimeter. What should I see off the yellow lead? How should I test the input and output off the rectifier? Finally, if it is the rectifier, how much should I expect to spend on a replacement?

------------------
Netsloth

15' Ashcraft Center Console
