Just picked up a long shaft 40hp merc and was wondering how expensive and difficult it would be to convert it to a short shaft. Thanks.

Serial number???? Probably more than you paid for the motor

Much easier to convert a short to a long shaft. How about one of those sliding brackets that mount to the transom, but I don't think they are cheap.

I'm picking it up Sunday, so I don't have the serial # at the moment. Gave $1000 for 15x48 skiff, motor, and trailer. I can add on to the transom, I do some fabricating and welding. Unless I can come across somebody willing to trade locally. Thanks for the info.
