40hp Johnson year?

i have a 40 Hp johnson and im trying to figure out the year so i can order some parts for it.

the serial # is 2132860 and model number is either BOS 22 C or BO8 22 C

i have read tons of year identification posts and none are even close to mine, i would guess my motor is early 60's to early 70's. i just want to know the exact year. thanks a lot for your help

Look for a quarter sized round (not eliptical) plate on the top of the engine ( near the tow hook--if equipped) should start with a J or a R..

thanks i will do that, the model number i found said model number right above it and was on a plate located below the hatch that gives access to the pull start. are you saying there is another number located somewhere on the top of the engine?

Can you post a picture of your motor? That might help!

Or look for a model number on the silver disc somewhere on the head ... like this:

banker john that is not the plate where i got my numbers from. your picture is very useful and clears things up. the plate i found was more official looking and located on the bracket holding the motor to the boat below the engine hatch.

the picture below is the only picture i have on my computer. i will take more tomorrow if i cant find that metal plate.

well i checked my motor again and i found that little silver plate on the top of the head with the johnson logo on it and my serial number (2132860) which matches the plate serial number. After further inspection i noticed my model number could be RDS 22 C which i dont think gets me anywhere still. sorry about the blurry picture of my plates. i couldn't get them to clear up.

on the bigger johnson plate it says the serial number of 2132860 and a model number of RDS 22 C. i Guess the R could be a B and the D could be a O but you get the idea anyways.

the little round plate has just the johnson logo and my serial number

here are a bunch of pictures on my engine. if anyone could definitely identify the carb rebuild kit i would need for it that would be perfect.
