Bought a 1996 pontoon with this motor on it. I have ran in to a problem. You can put new plugs in and motor will run great. At least until you shut it off. Then it won't start. Same problem again, no fire to the plugs. I'm guessing it needs new coil packs. Oh yeah. You can't gap the new plugs over 20 or they won't start. I have broken the bank to buy this boat. Really can't afford to be guessing much. Thanks

Buy a cheap inline spark tester and check for spark that way.

When you remove the plugs, how do they look?

You should be using NGK BUZHW spark plug, surface gap.

Does the bottom plug appear flooded out?
If so, try a fuel pump rebuild, $15 for parts.

Thanks for the reply. I took it out today and had to get towed. Not firing at plug wire at all. Put new plugs in, still no luck.

Thanks for the help. I decided to swallow my pride and take it to a shop. Too many diagnostics to do without the proper tools.
