The flywheel on my 40hp evinrude norseman model 40355d came lose and the taper is now not really a taper anymore. I seem to be having trouble finding a replacement. Does anyone know if I can get one from any other evinrude motor that will fit.
thanks Jason

Re: 40hp evinrude magneto

How about the crankshaft? A flywheel will do you no good if the crank taper is buggered up. That's why I keep preaching on proper installation. The tapers and keyways must be in perfect condition, and clean and dry. And you MUST use a torque wrench to tighten the nut to 100-105 ft lbs.

Part number 580901 flywheel fits:
40hp 1962-73
33hp 1965-70
28hp 1962-64

I found a 28 hp speeditwin model 28452m the magneto looks exactly the same as my 40 hp and it fits. Should I use lock tight on the taper and the nut this time?

Absolutely NOT! Never use loctite on the flywheel. It will never, ever come off again.
Just torque it to 105 ft-lbs with a clean dry taper.
