I'm buying a 40hp mercury, Its a new engine and the guy wants 4200$ for the engine. I have a 9.9 evinrude 1996 engine thats like new. My question is 1. How much should I get on trade for my 9.9??? Is this a good deal?? Im putting the engine on a 17.5 gruman aluminum bass boat 2.how fast should it go with this engine. 3. Do you think I will like the 4 stroke Vs. 2 stroke.
4.Also what is the shaft length on my 9.9???
I think its 20in. My boat is rated for a 50hp so 5. do you think this 40hp will be big enough??

Hi, Rusty.

$4200 is a reasonable, but not a good price.

1. Check NADA for trade valur of your engine.

2. You should be able to get into the 30s.

3. Most people really like 4 strokes over 2 strokes.

4. The 9.9 was made with 15, 20 and 25" shafts. Measure it from the inside of the mount clamp to the anti-ventilation plate.

5. 40 is plenty for your Grumman.

Good luck. :)
