40c 2 questions

1)
I'm getting 17 + volts at the battery while running at higher rpms.
Voltage reg.?
Loose wire?
How much do they cost?
Where to buy?

2)
My lower unit shifts into and out of gear just fine.
works great.
It is making a ticking/clicking sound while underway.
no clicking while in nuetral.
The sound does not seem to be the same rpm as the drive shaft.
The clicking is much slower.
Maybe 1 click every 6 to 10 seconds at 5 mph.

Any ideas?
I'm sure I need to take the lower unit apart.
I'm not afraid 8)
What do I look for?
What do I not do.?.....:^

You don't have a regulator on that engine so....As you go up in RPM you will go up in voltage. The ticking needs to be run down, but it's likely that your shift needs to be adjusted.

I am surprised Elvin, that your first response wasnt to get an owners manual. You told me that about 5 times, so I finally bought one from you.

Owners manual? I think you mean a service manual. A service manual is always the first thing anyone should consult before and during any diagnostic. In this case the first question was based on an incorrect idea and the second...I doubt that a service manual would help at this point. But, it sure wouldn't hurt.d:)
