40 HP Mariner year?

I have a new "used" boat with a 40 HP mariner. Looking for year to get a manual, guessing it is in the 86-89 range. The boat is 1987.

The serial number is 424689 and the tag also says 40 ELO, code 6E9 L and made in Japan
