I enter serial number into parts finder and it comes up not found ???
Think it is an 1989 but want to be positive. What # is p[arts finder looking for ??

Thanks Yeg, One more little trick to know. Using/knowing the manufacture date, Merc considers anything made after the end of June is the start of the next model year. So while this one was made in 1988 it's technically considered a 1989 engine year.

shocker494, If needed, you could search the model number ( 7040312PU ) online for a parts catalog for this engine model.
