40 Hp Johnson repair questions!?

I have a 1975 40hp Johnson that the repair guy says needs a clutch dog and the forward gear replaced. I am very able in changing this if it is not too involved. Is this a simple do it yourself job and are the parts easily available?<br /><br />Does anyone have any links to any online refernce manuals or repair maanuals.<br /><br />Thanks for the info in advance.<br />LB

Parts are available. Not terribly complicated to do, although getting the shift mechanism installed correctly can be tricky. Correct sealing is imperitive, or you'll be replacing more than a gear & clutch dog in short order. I'm not aware of any on-line reference books.<br /><br />-John
