I found a 40 hp electramatic ( RKL- 30 C ) with a generator. Looks like I can rig it up to my 33 evinrude ( 33653 D ) How do I wire it up to charge my starting battery. Everything on the 40 is electric and wired into a general connector which I dont use on the 33 , I just have the two leads coming off the block and the soloniod that I manually screw onto the battery every time I go out. Thanks, Ronnie

Re: 40 hp generator wiring

Does the 40 have the junction box with the field regulator with it ? The generator is useless without that type of regulator.
The yellow generator wire goes to the Armature regulator connection.
The blue generator wire goes to the Field regulator connection.
The black wire from the regulator goes to ground.
The brown wire from the regulator goes to the battery (+) through a fuse and optionally an ammeter.

Re: 40 hp generator wiring

yes it has all the components and wires that appear to be in good shape. I will have to retrofit the regulator somewhere because it has a completly different cowl plate, I know I can squeeze it in sowewhere but tell me, is there a test I can do on this whole thing before I invest this time, to see if the thing will put out a charge?. Thanks Ronnie
