40 HP Force Starting Question

I have a 40 HP Force and recently there is a hesitation when I try to crank it. It will hesitate for a split second and then turn over and start. I feel like it is the solinoid or starter, hoping for the solinoid. I think I found the starter and solinoid on the iBoats parts page but none of the numbers on my parts are listed on their site. Is there a site that will cross referrence these marine starters and solinoids to auto parts? I think maybe I could find a solinoid that will work but maybe not a starter...Anyway, thanks for any help.....tcoop

Hi tnt, don't know if you found your problem but I'll reply anyway. I have a 50 with the same problem, been doing it for years.I don't think it's the solenoid but you could jump it out and see if it still does it. I have a ford solenoid on mine so it's not hard to find something that will work.As for the starter it's a fairly universal one,not trying to cut out Iboats but they are common on ebay.Could be the armature needs cleaning where the brushes contact it.Unless it bothers you I wouldn't worry about it but if it does I would take it to a starter repair shop and let them check it, it will be alot cheaper than a new one

Check your big ground wires especially if one connects to your starter. Check solenoid connections. Once upon a time I had a loose starter ground and it would crank real slow as if the battery was dead. Also your battery might not be providing enough voltage to the solenoid for it to operate properly.
