Was told by the previous owner that this motor sprays the water from around the center of the propeller, has like an exhaust and it seems to do so. But I have never encountered this before. I believed the water should be streaming from where the arrow is on this pic,

photo

Am I wrong?

Also I would appreciate any suggestions on which repair manual is best for this outboard.
Thanks all,
keiser

Keiser, I am new to boating and I have have found the Clymer (Force Outboard) Shop Manual very helpful. I have a 90Hp 91 Force Outboard and water does come out of the exhaust. I couldn't view your picture to see where you pointed to. Good Luck

Thanks Puddle Jumper,
Now what I don't understand is if it does come from the exhaust at the propeller, how can you tell when the stream is weak and the impeller is going bad? or does this outboard use a different water pumping system, without a slowly deteriorating impeller? So that the impeller is not a worry?
That would be an advanced science. lol.

Sorry about the photo link, it should work now...

keiser

I have the exact same motor as you do and the water is supposed to come out where the arrow is on the picture.

Cory and PJ are right. You should just see a fine mist coming from where the arrow is.
BTW that is the exhaust relief, most of the water and exhaust comes out at or near the prop. Change the water pump once a year for sure, no one can really tell if they are bad by looking, they all look fine till they fail. Good Luck

I JUST REPALCED A IMPELLER AND IT NOT HARD TO DO. COST ABOUT 30.00 TO 40.00 BUT
YOU SHOULD HAVE WATER COMING OUT.
ON THE ENGINE JUST LIKE YOURS.
GOOD LUCK REX

Thanks everyone,
Puts my mind at ease. First one I have had like this. I have only had Evinrude outboards before. It has water coming out around the propeller and it hasn't gotten hot. It runs really good actually, starts as soon as you touch the key. Glad to hear its right. Thanks again.
Keiser
