What are the pros and cons of a 4 strokes vs. 2 strokes? Is there a reason why there are a lot more 2 stroke yamaha then 4 strokes on bass boat? what about break-in procedures? Thanks.

Re: 4 strokes Yamaha ?

Four strokes are generally heavier, quieter, more expensive, can be more fuel efficiant and smoke alot less because they dont burn oil, unless theres a worn out or cracked oil ring or something.two strokes generally rev faster and they sound cool going 70+ mph while someones racing to the next fishin hole!!I dont like to go that fast, it scares the crap out of me!!might have something to do w a wipeout on a kneeboard years ago at about 50mph or so!!!40 is plenty for me.you must change crankcase oil/filter,about twice a year for my yama F90,about 45/50$ a pop for yama oil and filter.but I dont have to buy 2 stroke oil. im not sure which cost more for maintanence.anyone?A friend had a new F200,it required 20 hours of break- in,alternating rpms, not cuising long at any given speed no wot i beleve was the procedure.alot of Fuel/time but it was fun cruisin the local lake just eaten up the chop from all the ski boats in his 23 maycraft cc w a huge transom bracket. what a ride!!we new right away he had a good boat and it performed well in the ocean.

Re: 4 strokes Yamaha ?

depends on the size, the only 2 stroke yamaha imports to the US is the VZ200.
everything else is now 4 stroke so you will see more of them as time passes.,
