I have a Yama 760 and have been nothing but pleased. I do know that it uses more fuel than my boat! Does anyone know the fuel savings of a comparable 100hp or so 4 stroke? I am just curious what I could expect to save on gas and oil not to mention the hassle of adding oil.

Re: 4 Stroke vs 2 stroke Fuel Consumption

I feel your pain with the fuel consumption of a two stroke. My Sea Doo 96XP with the 787cc engine (modified with heads, pipe, flame arrestor) can really suck the gas.

Having said that , you would need over 130 HP on a 4 stroke to equal what your 760cc Yam will do performance wise because of the extra engine weight + extra hull size to carry bigger engine etc.

Sorry I do not know what the savings would be in fuel cost. I feel the greatest benefit would be the extended cruising range of a four stroke vs. the 2 stroke.

Of course a 4 stroke PWC will be more expensive to buy than a comparable performing 2 stroke, so you will not save money on initial purchase. If a 4 stroke breaks or is flooded, it will generally cost more for a major repair. On minor stuff, no big diff in repairs.

I am biased toward 2 strokes in dirt bikes and PWC, but as PWC's get bigger, you need a 4 stroke to move them.
