This engine seems to be making oil. Do you think its possible that the diaphragm could be leaking fuel into the oil?

The boat is still in water over my head so I have not drained the oil yet. Honestly did not think of smelling it on the dipstick. Will be towing off lake tomorrow and tackling the problem. Just in a pre-planning stage right now. Thanks for the answer boobie. Looking at the manual, this seemed like the easiest point for a gas into oil problem.

Another possibility. Make sure the thermostat is functioning properly. Possible the engine is running cold. If the computer thinks the engine is cold, it could be running in the choke mode, using extra fuel. Possible that some of that excess fuel is washing down the pistons into the crankcase. The crankcase oil level will rise and smell of fuel.

You probably should post this as a new thread in the mercc forum.

The engine mentioned here was a johnson and was fixed and back at dock the next day.
