I have been looking at four strokes in the range of 90 HP but have a delima. I am being told by marine mechanics that carberator motors give much more trouble than do fuel injected motors. I have been planning a 90HP but will have to go up to a 115HP to get fuel injection. I am looking at Honda, Yamaha, and Mercury. Is it worth the extra expense to get the fuel injection? Which brand of these three are best? Any suggestions are appreciated.

Yes, Sandman, the wrenches speak with straight tongue. EFI is a major advantage in 4 strokes and currently the Suzi is the only 90 offered, and it is a detuned 115. Unless the USCG rating on your boat limits it to under 100 hp, look closely at both the Suzi and Yamaha 115 EFIs, as well as the Merc, which uses a Yamaha powerhead.

I was limited to under 100 hp and ended up buying the Suzuki 70hp EFI motor, which is about 80lb lighter than the 90. I am completely satisfied.

Yes, the EFI is worth the extra bux.

Red sky at night. . .
JB

The new Mercs (The 2002's are now available) have EFI from 50hp on up.
