I am looking to upgrade/replace a 200hp Evinrude outboard with a four stroke model. I have researched quite extensively those that are built by Suzuki and Yamaha. Are there any purchasers of these products who can provide me with "first hand" information as to their pros or cons. Thanks, I would really appreciate any data from those with applied experience.

You state your Evinrude is a 200 hp...are you hoping to keep the h.p. the same in a four stroke?

Walt

Re: 4 stroke engines

Have you checked into the weight factor?

The 4 strokes are generally LOTS heavier than the 2 strokes.

I currently run a 90 hp 2 stroke Yamaha (great motor) but if I wanted to go 4 stroke I was limited to a 50 hp due to weight. Not enough motor at all.

If weight is not a factor on your application, I've heard great reports locally from the owners of the new 4 stroke Yamahas in the 200 - 250 hp range. (which was what got me looking at the weight issue for my boat)

Re: 4 stroke engines

I did notice while perusing the specs that the four strokes were significantly greater in weight. However, I did not even consider that factor. Thanks guys. (Diesel, I just sold my 2 stroke Yamaha 90 HP that I used to push my Boston Whaler Montauk. I agree, GREAT engine. That's why I'm leaning towards sticking with another Yammy for my Grady White)
