I'm wiring my trailer to have two seperate connectors for the lights; one 7 way to attach to my truck, and a 4 round connector that my friend's truck uses. Does anyone know where I can find a wiring diagram for the 4 round plug? Google has shown me every style but that.

Why don't you just buy an adapter? They sell (Hoppy I think) Round seven to round 6, round 5, and round 4. Otherwise I'll look at the shop tomorrow for a diagram.

I've never seen an appropriate adapter, and I already have the 4 round plug to wire up. 4 round seems to be pretty rare, the only adapter I've ever seen for it is 4 round to 4 flat. I would imagine I could special order one from somewhere, but I'm sure it costs alot more than it should...

Check the terminals on the plug. Every plug I've seen has the terminals marked.

Thanks, but I'm looking for something like this:

Only for 4 round.

No, they are not printed on the plug anywhere...

Re: 4-Round wiring diagram?

Seems that 4-round connectors don't come with wires/pigtails attached because there is no standard pin-to-wire configuration like for the 6 and 7 pin connectors. If you look at the link tommays provided, you'll see that for the 4-round to 4-flat adaptors they tell you to verify wiring by function because the configuration may vary from one manufacturer to another. Probably best if you check your friend's 4-round connector and just configure yours like his. Good luck.

Use a test light on your buddies truck to see which terminals are which. Attach a four-flat to the four-round plug. Another way is to attach four wires to the four-round. Crimp a female bullet connector to each wire except the ground. Crimp a male to that wire. Do the same for the wires on the four flat using male bullets and a female for the ground. You can now connect any trailer, regardless of how screwed up the wiring is, to the four round by simply rearranging the bullets. I do the same with a pair of four flats. People do some really creative wiring so this arrangement allows towing trailers with non-standard wiring.

Round four connectors are common for the umbilical cords on dinghys for motorhomes. That is the cars being towed behind an RV. I am sorry I got seriously sidetracked at my shop the last two days. I agree that you should check your buddy's truck to verify the pin functions. I will try to check again.

Don't make this so difficult. Attach a flat four (costs about $1.50 at WalMart) to the round plug you already have. All you need to determne is what the pin-outs are on your buddies truck. A two minute job with a test light or VOM.
