Hi Everyone,

I've owned an old Lund now for about 5 years, and I still can't find answers on something that's been bugging me. The manufacturer's plate on the stern of my boat has a serial number which is only 4 digits. It is simply "1970". Anyone know what this might mean? I bought it from a guy (here in Canada) who bought it from someone in Minnesota. It seems like it is an American boat, if that makes a difference.

Thanks a lot!

Lund is made in New York Mills Minnesota. I'm on my 5th Lund. Depending on the age of the boat most times the HIN is stamped in the aluminum on right side of the boat (as you sit facing forward) on the transom just below the gunwale cap/grab handle.

That said, if memory serves I've also seen the HIN on riveted on tag. The tag is riveted to the transom on the inside of the boat close to where the outboard would clamp on.

It very likely could be just that, a 1970. But usually a Lund HIN number starts with LUN********70

What does the registration and title paperwork say?

ANY BOAT MADE PRIOR TO 1973 WILL NOT HAVE A HIN.
IT WILL LIKELY HAVE A SERIAL NUMBER SOMEWHERE, USUALLY ON THE TRANSOM, INSIDE OR OUTSIDE, SOMETIMES ON THE TRANSOM BRACE, INSIDE NEAR THE BOTTOM.

dang caps lock.

Someone will be able to give you an age range if you can post a photo.

Some additional information: The serial number is actually "1940", and the serial number plate also says "Manufactured by Lund Metal works, New York Mills". 1940 obviously isn't the year of manufacture, since it didn't become "Lund Metal Works" until 1961.
