I am purchasing a 90hp Honda and the dealer suggested a 4 blade prop instead of of a 3 blade for pulling tubers etc... it will be going onto a pontoon boat. Is this the right call? not sure of the pitch.

slake,

The four blade prop. typically provides a better bite on the water and tends to hold better-less possibility of cavitation. That is important on a toon.

The most important thing is that the pitch is low enough to allow the engine to reach its full operating rpm.

djohns19,

Thanks, for the info on the pitch.. I did not know anything about proper pitch. so I take it the lower the pitch allows the engine to turn easier in the water for more rpm?

slake,

You are correct. A general rule is that each inch in pitch equals about 200 rpm-up or down.
