I have a Johnson 2 stroke 15 hp outboard and i am thinking about changing the prop.(this one is a little banged up) i saw one with four blades, is there an advantage with the 4 blade or should i just stick to the oem 3 blade type that is on it now ?thanks for any feedback.

Re: 4 blade prop?

IMO a 4 blade prop on a 15 HP would slow you down due to the added drag of the extra blade. 4 blade props are useful with bigger engines where they provide extra prop blade surface area, probably not gonna' do you any good (except for making your wallet lighter).

Re: 4 blade prop?

What are you using the 15HP outboard for?

Not that I'm any expert on small OB props, but most of the 4 blade props I've seen for small OB's are low pitch props, power props used for kicker motors or pushing heavy loads.

Do you have a link to the 4 blade prop you're looking at.

Re: 4 blade prop?

I read on IBoat that it is recommended to reduce pitch 1 inch when going from 3 blades to 4.

You don't give ant specs on top speed, etc.. or what you are trying to improve.
A Solas from iboats will give great value.
The stainless Saturn gives max performance. drop pitch an inch - it's cupped.
