My A/C pully is squeeling and the A/C doesn't work anyway. The sticker under the hood shows an alternate belt for non A/C motors as shown in the pic.

By changing the belt to go around the crankshaft pully the other way, isn't it changine the direction of the belt? Can you do that on the water pump, Power steering pump? Seems odd.

Black line is with A/C, red dotted lin is without.

Any comments before I screw something up?

Okay the easy way to explain this is to have you print your picture.....

Pick the black line and draw arrows along it ----->----->------ starting at the harmonic balancer which is the primary source of the driving...... using a different pen do it again on the red line......

The only thing that will suffer aside from the loss of ac is the loss of defrost/defog ability will be diminished......... unless I am reading this all wrong??? ;)

No, you aren't changing the rotation of the other accessories. Look at the red line, it has two differences. When you eliminate the A/C compressor, it get runs to the bottom of the damper pulley, instead of to the top of the water pump pulley. Yes, that all changes, but the rotation of the accessories do not.

I had to do this same thing in my cavalier...it is just a beater car and losing the AC didn't matter much to me. I haven't noticed to terribly much with less defrost ability but its a whole lot cheaper fix than getting a new compressor. I agree after looking at diagram while using different parts of the pulley compressor is still the same.

It will work fine and what a nice design that its able to be converted without a dummy pulley and bracket to replace the a/c compressor.

Good motors.

Thanks to everyone for the input. I had to sketch it out like Bob VT said, with arrows to get my brain around that one.:)

I agree it was an easy fix. I also replaced the original alternator last week.
My 96 F150 with only 240K miles and all these problems!!;). It's no wonder Ford stopped using this engine the next year!! :)
