4.5 hp evinrude oil mix 50:1 or 100:1?

I saw in a recent posting the suggestion that this 4.5 hp evinrude uses a 50:1 mix. Yet, there is a decal on the frame of my motor near the gas line coupler that shows a picture of a gas pump with the number 100 then a picture of a drop of oil and the number 1. I read this as 100:1.<br /><br />Can anyone confirm which it is? Is there any harm in mixing at 50:1 if the recommendation is 100:1?

Welcome to iboats!<br /><br />Yes,your decal shows 100:1 but that mixture was changed back to 50:1. Years ago OMC made the change to 100:1 and found that it was not enough lubrication. <br /><br />50:1 is the mix you should use.

100:1 was fine with frequent use.But it was not enough lube if the engine sat for a few weeks in disuse.OMC had a bulletin on it.<br /><br />DHP
