I have a 1992 monterey 206scr with a 4.3l volvo penta. I just bought this boat used a week ago. I put it in the water the other day started fine, idled fine, then when i gave it throttle in gear it would bog down. the more throttle the more it would bog. a couple of times it stalled out. When in nuetral it will rev fine. I cleaned the carb, changed the plugs, and changed the fuel filter and the problem still exists. it seemed a little better at first but I got about 1/8 mile down the river and it bogged right down. Any suggestions on what could be the problem or what I can do? I am fairly new at this but I do have some mechanical knowledge just not with boats. Any help would be awesome.

When you say you cleaned the carb, did you disassemble it, clean it and reassemble according to the specs in the manual? Check your fuel lines and vent lines for any obstructions. If fine, sounds like you need to rebuild the carb, not too difficult with the correct manual and parts. Good news, the rebuild kit is around 50 bucks or so.

Did you empty the contents of the old filter into a clear container to see if there was water in it? Sure sounds like you have water in the tank, and when the filter gets too much water, it goes to the carb.

Thank you for the input guys. I however did not notice any water when I dumped out the filter. Was hoping I would so I could rest knowing that was the problem. When I cleaned the carb I did not disassemble it. It is a quadrajet 4 barrel and looked a little tricky to me. I have some carb knowledge but that one just looked like it was gonna stump me. A local machine shop is rebuilding it for almost nothing and I will have it back today. Hope that settles my issues. I will update after I get it back on. Thanks again for the input it was much appreciated.
