Ok, I yanked off the exhuast manifolds and noticed the wires to the solonoid on top of the starter were corroded. When I cranked on the battery wire bolt, I broke the plastic backing on the solonoid It seems the replacement solonoid is a "metric" one. The solonoid on top of the starter motor has 3 terminals. 1 red wire for the battery, one yellow/red and 1 purple wire. In my hast to fix the solonoid on the starter motor, I lost track of witch terminal is yellow/red and witch one is purple. can someone tell me were the yellow/red wire goes and where the purple wire goes? This was a foolish error on my part.

Your local boat store should have a copy of Clymer's 1987-1993 OMC Cobra Repair Manual. That has all the wiring diagrams you need to work on that engine.

I do not know you exact motor but usualy one wire goes to the key switch on the start terminal and the other goes to the coil. Most starters I have worked on these wires have different size terminals and can not be put on wrong, as one of terminal is too small to fit over the bigger post.<br />Good luck

As you looking at solenoid while it is mounted on the starter, yellow and red on inboard side terminal and purple on outboard side terminal.
