4.3L in a Starcraft 191 SFM ?

I am going to take a test ride and I was wondering what type of performance to expect from a 4.3L in this boat.

Sorry wish I could help you more but I am strictly an outboard guy.

But if it isn't working right you should know.

I would think that it should plane easily and run about 40 MPH give or take at about 5000 rpms

My SS201 with the 4.3 4barrel (205hp) toped out about 46mph if I remember right, ^^ as Jason said pictures!!!

I found this boat on Craigslist and posted on another thread here. It is in good condition and has been stored in a heated garage. The price is a little high but may be worth it if it checks out on the test drive. I have found a few similar boats but they are all set up with outboards and need work. The motor has a two barrel carb so its probably about 190 HP. You will notice in the pictures that it has trim tabs and the hydrofoil on the outdrive, his reasoning was the boat felt heavy in the tail and the tabs and hydrofoil made it fee

Yep, this is the boat that has both hydrofoil AND trim tabs, where 1 or the other should do:

Thanks for your advise. I may have to pass on it ,he wants to sell asap, he doesn't want to budge on the price and its going to be another week or more before I'd be able to get a test drive.

Did you decide what was a fair offer, since most of the recommendations in the price thread I linked indicated the asking price was high...

The other thing is they never built a 165 hp 4.3 so one way or the other the listing wrong.

The motor is a 4.3l, 185 hp. Yes it was on the high end price wise, but it was in very good condition. Took it out on a local lake and the engine runs good. The prop was just refinished, new tires and brakes on the trailer, new mooring cover, good canvas on the bow cover and convertible top. So I decided for a boat that was turn key it wasn't all that bad.

Yep, the 165 would likely have been an inline 6.

MerCruiser did sell a 3.8L V6.
