I have a 1989 4.3L OMC cobra io. The engine threw a rod and i am looking for a short block to rebuild. I've been told that any rear wheel drive GM from 1987 to 1991 will have this block. Is this true? and do the auto engines rotate the same? I've found an 84, will it work?

If anyone knows of a link that lists GM 4.3L blocks and what years they were the same, this would help me out thanks

I think ,and I am not an expert but as long as you don't get into the years with a counterbalance shaft you should be allright. Only the block, rods and crank. Maybe this will get someome to correct me if I am wrong. Bryce

Ive got a good 4.3 block Does yours have a mechanical fuel pump? If so I have 2 of those blocks. Both will have to be rebuilt. Im in Fort Worth so were not to far apart. 35s all the way.

I know it has a mechanical fuel pump, but i'm not sure about the rear main, I haven't pulled it yet. I don't think the my block is salvagable, it through a rod and oil and water poured out the bottom. <br />Rod, the blocks you have, have they had any freeze damage in the past? I'm hoping to find one that i can re-ring and newbearings and possibly have to have the crank turned and new gaskets and seals and be ready to go.

I checked with the owner he wants to much for it if you ask me $500. He says thats what the cores worth. Have you checked on ebay, im sure you can find a better deal. Sorry I thought it would be a good deal for you and personally I think thats too much.
