4.3 yamaha yems stendrive derating

I have a 1991 ebbtide with a 4.3 yems sterndrive and i have never had a proble untill the other day when i was pulling a wakeboarder when at a slow speed it cuts the rpm like the computer is derateing the motor. I can put it in nuetral and back into gear and it will run fine wide open and going straigt. If i turn left or right it will derate the motor also. The first few times it happened the trim indicator on the dash would flash, but I don't get that now. It runs great on going straight or as long you don't run at slow speeds.
