4.3 Yamaha stern Shifting adjustments

Replaced cable interrupter switch cleaned shifting forks they it shifts really easily when it was apart so I did not drill it out the barrel on cable is not adjustable It shifts fine with muffin on but in water under load it’s stiff it shifts but just not that smooth what cable should I start with in fine tuning my shifting
