I'm the proud owner of a 1992 Celebrity 180BR with the 4.3 mercruiser engine. How much hassle would it be to simply swap the existing non vortec cylinder heads for vortec 96 up style heads? I realize the intake manifold would have to be changed as well, would my existing pushrods work? Did mercruiser make a 4bbl intake manifold for the vortec style heads?

Thanks
Bryan

She will run 52 mph by the GPS in her present form, not bad for a 18yr old boat. The 4.3 has 425 hrs on her clock but still has great oil pressure and all 6 cylinders are showing 175 PSI on the compression gauge. I think I will leave well enough alone.

To answer your question, it is a bolt on swap, and GM makes, and Merc uses a 4bbl Vortec manifold.

Or for fresh water use you the edelbrock 2114 is a good choice.

Thanks, we love it. Although we are still thinking about something bigger. Just can't agree on how big and what kind of power.

[/ATTACH]I understand that.. I had a chance last year to get a Baja 232 Islander with a 454 mercruiser/bravo outdrive, it was a 1992 model but was still nice. I'm kind of glad I didn't because I go to the lake ALOT and I'm usually using 6-7 gallons every outing, and its not a big lake, not a small lake, 22,000 acres (I only run in a portion of that) some of its not navigatable.. Most of the time its just me handling the unloading/loading at the ramp, while a pretty girl watches this, and I'm sure its alot easier handling a 18' boat than a 23' boat. I have seen as many as 3 guys at the ramp before some of them actually in the water pushing a perfectly running boat onto the trailer or pushing it off, they are totally soaked I wonder why they are handling it like that.. Mine is paid for free and clear and the same boat today with the mercruiser V6 option is 25,000 dollars at Bass Pro. I have only $4000.00 in this one.
